REO Speedwagon’s 1984 power ballad has been in my head — it’s been like my 8th grade homecoming dance in there all week. “I can’t fight this feeling anymore. I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for…”
The song has begun to occur for me like an anthem about the eternal generosity of Spirit, which is our truest & most natural state: a perpetually pouring overflow of plenty, an effortless sharing of ourselves with each other and the world.
Natural though it is, most of us have spent much of our lives trying to fight this feeling. And whatever our reasons, whatever constraining ideas of ourselves or the world made us think we needed to fight our most expansive feelings of spiritual giving-ness, these reasons no longer serve us.
Can’t fight it. Don’t need to fight it. Better off not fighting it. I can’t wait to see you Saturday at 6:00, at Albuquerque Center for Spiritual Living (abqcsl.org). Join us at 5:30 for cheer, and community. XO, Rev. Drew
