“I am incapable of conceiving infinity, and yet I do not accept finity.” — Simone de Beauvoir
The very nature of infinity is that it is beyond conception. Any attempt to define, conceive, or qualify the infinite can’t help but curb our experience of it. And of course, this is what we must do. We make choices and set intentions, circumscribing the infinite for all practical purposes as we make our way through life making sense of everything.
It’s important to remember, however, that even as we choose these limitations — creating actualities out of possibilities and particulars out of infinities — we are not really binding or confining the Infinite, but merely our experience of it. Infinity still exists everywhere always.
I’m wondering what might be possible if we recognized that all of it — this, that, you, me, money, time, life — is something more like Infinity Concentrate. Not a limitation but a concentration. Maybe we’d make bigger, greater, more beautiful choices.
