“When you hit a wrong note, it’s the next note that makes it good or bad.” — Miles Davis
Most of us invest a lot of anxiety in the next step, the next project, the next thing we’re called to say or do. We fret: what if I get it wrong? what if I make a mistake? what if I hit the wrong note? And life becomes this experience of constant stress and trepidation.
But what if we remembered that the next note is going to be fine no matter what. It may go as planned or not, it may come out “right” or not. But it’s always the note after that (the next-next note) that will determine how it everything fits together. The next-next note represents the opportunity for resolution, or melody, or going in a completely new direction with it all.
And we don’t have to worry about that next-next note right now. By the time we get to the next-next note it will just be the next note — it will be simply what’s here to do, what’s clear to do, what we’ve prepared for, what we’re made for.
You’ve got this, my beloveds. Can’t wait to see you for celebration at Albuquerque Center for Spiritual Living (abqcsl.org) this Saturday at 6:00. Join us at 5:30 for refreshments & cheer. XOX, Drew
